Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions must be set up in advance and authorised by the Doctor.

You can request a prescription online using SystmOnline, in writing by post or email it to us, or come in to the surgery and complete a paper request and hand it in. Also most of the local pharmacies offer an ordering service.

We went live with electronic prescriptions from 31st January 2017. Once ordered we will generate your prescription and send it electronically to your pharmacy of choice – please let us know which pharmacy you would like to use. Some patients may still need a paper prescription as some medications will not send electronically – we will let you know if this is the case.

SystmOnline

Filling in you request form
Tick the items you DO want and LEAVE BLANK the items you DON’T want. Return the counterfoil by post or in person or you can email it to SHECCG.RustlingsRd@nhs.net. These instructions are also printed on the counterfoil of your repeat prescription.

Telephone requests
We have not accepted telephone requests for repeat prescriptions for several years now, unless in very particular circumstances. This is for several reasons; despite installing extra phone lines calls for repeats medications can block the line and make it impossible for patients to get through for emergencies and for Doctors to make urgent calls; A dedicated prescription line or allocated prescription time becomes so busy that patients find it very frustrating to have to keep calling a number that is constantly engaged; In the past we found many telephone requests were unsafe as patients were unable to say accurately which medication they needed.

Medication reviews
We must review your repeat prescriptions face to face on a reasonably regular basis depending on the medication and the conditions being treated and at intervals of no more than a year.
